By default, CDlinux tries to guess the best resolution for your monitor. But sometimes it may fail, and you get a blank screen or a message like “Out of range”, “Input not supported”, or something like that.

If this happened, you can press the “Enter” key twice. And CDlinux will restart X with a safe resolution. In most case, this will solve the problem.

Yes. Since CDlinux 0.9.0, you can boot from the ISO Image directly without actually burning it.

CDlinux 0.9.0 and later support boot directly from the ISO image via GRUB4DOS. GRUB4DOS is an universal boot loader based on GNU GRUB. It can boot off DOS/LINUX, or via Windows boot manager/syslinux/lilo, or from MBR/CD. It also has builtin BIOS disk emulation, ATAPI CDROM driver, etc.

CDlinux 0.9.x

CDlinux has changed to libburnia for CD/DVD/BD burning since version 0.9.0. Libburnia is a project for reading, mastering and writing optical discs. It has a cdrecord emulator named cdrskin. You can burn CD/DVD/BD with the “cdrskin” command. For example, if your burner is /dev/srX:

CDL_AMOUNT

CDlinux can auto detect/mount your disks/partitions (coldplug & hotplug). This feature is enabled in CDlinux standard edition. But for safty, it is disabled in CDlinux_mini by default. For example, if you are running CDlinux_mini to rescue your disk/partition, you surely don't want this feature. But, if you do want it, you can use this para…

CDlinux 0.6.x and 0.9.x is binary compatible with Slackware 11. You can use Slackware 11 packages in CDlinux. If you want to compile your own packages, you can also use Slackware 11. Note, you should also add all the dependencies of your packages to CDlinux too.

We'll explain how to install CDlinux 0.9.2 and later onto a USB key without actually burning it.

First, you need to boot CDlinux. There are several ways to boot the CDlinux ISO image directly.

Virtual Machine

Perhaps the easiest way is to use a Virtual Machine appplication. For example, you can boot the CDlinux ISO image in VMware (just set OS type to general linux 2.6 kernel). Once CDlinux is started, plug your USB key in and assign it to the virtual machine. Then launch the CDlinux installa…

For 0.9.1 and later, just use the GUI installation wizard.

Currently, this installation wizard can help you install CDlinux onto 2 kinds of devices: USB disk/partitions, and Windows C: “disks”. If you want to install CDlinux onto other devices, or if you want to have more control and install CDlinux manually, here are some

The default username in CDlinux is “cdl”.

For security reason, the password of both “cdl” and “root” are disabled.

This means you cannot login, neither locally nor remotely. Except for the X session, tty1, and tty2. On tty1, press “Enter” and you'll login as “root”. On tty2, press “Enter” and you'll login as “cdl”.
